Money is an important score card in many people's lives. If you are a professional or in business money may become so important that it consumes a person's time, thoughts and demeanor. Those who have money experience a different type of lifestyle then those who don't and when we add our ego to the problem we may find that money becomes a huge contributor to our outlook and self-worth.

Self-worth is tied to a person's monetary wealth and to their ability to be wealthy in the future (Manji, 2001). A person who believes in themselves will have both the motivation and the desire to keep working towards their goal simply because they are sure they will get the pay off. When the person doesn't believe in himself or herself they are much less invested in making their dreams a reality.

Making the decision to become wealthy isn't easy. People often find all types of excuses and other activities to do that fill up their day but don't get them any closer to their ultimate goals. Thus, staying focused on your dreams is of huge importance in achieving a level of success.

Once someone decides they are going to be rich and they believe in themselves enough to make it happen, they may still face personal barriers. Financial worth and self-worth are so intertwined that people have a difficult time separating them out from each other (Rasmusson, 1999). Therefore, you have to believe that you are "worthy" to become rich.

Believing that you are worthy doesn't mean that a person doesn't care about the poor or other people. "Worthy" means that a person feels that they are deserving of the wealth that is accrued. "If that guy can be a millionaire why can't I?" In other words, there is little distinguishable difference between how you perceive other wealthy people and how you perceive yourself.

Naturally, if you believe yourself to be different and less worthy then what is your motivation for making it all happen? You aren't likely to invest your time and energy into something that you feel you aren't worthy of. Those old moral sayings that have associated wealth with evil versus wealth with responsibility really hold people back.

You may also find that it interesting that millionaires attribute their success to personal intelligence, hard work and good sense (Millionaire may not, 2000). These millionaires don't truly feel wealthy until they have reached 5 million worth of personal assets. Therefore, feeling wealthy is not the same thing as believing in your skills and abilities.

The lesson many of us can take away from this article is that wealth is a state of mind and a matter of time. If you believe in yourself and work hard you will be able to make it to the top if you give yourself enough time. If you don't believe in yourself then there is a good chance you will never go forward. You won't have the motivation or the desire to work each and every day towards what you want.
